Stop Typing. Start Talking.

I type my prompts like telegrams and wonder why AI replies like a stranger.

"Fix bug."

"Make better."

"Summarise."

Stop.

Directions over the phone

Imagine a friend visiting your house for the first time.

If you text them, you might write:

"Near the temple."

That's it.

There are hundreds of temples in Kathmandu.

Good luck.

But if they call you, the conversation is completely different:

"Okay, come past the big temple, then take the small lane next to the momo shop, the one with the blue shutter. If you see the school, you've gone too far."

Same person.

Same house.

Ten times more context.

Because talking is cheap.

Typing feels expensive, so we cut corners.

AI has the same problem

When we type, we compress.

When we talk, we explain.

And explanation is exactly what AI needs.

Many assistants, including Grok Bot, let you talk instead of type. Use it.

Try it once

Here's the difference in practice.

Bad (typed):
Write email to client about delay.

Good (spoken, then transcribed):
So the client is Ramesh from the hotel project.
We promised the booking page by Friday but the
payment provider changed their API, so it's going
to be next Wednesday. I want to sound apologetic
but not desperate, and I want to offer a short
call on Monday to walk him through it.

Nobody would type the second one.

Everybody would say it.

Tips for talking to AI

  • Ramble first. Let AI organise it.
  • Say who it's for and why it matters.
  • Mention what you're worried about.
  • Say "the result should look like…"

It feels strange the first time.

Like talking to yourself.

By the third time, it feels normal.

Final thoughts

AI doesn't need shorter prompts.

It needs better directions.

And most of us give better directions with our voice than with our thumbs.

So next time you're about to type "near the temple"…

Just call.
