Teachers Have Homework Too

Teachers mark 120 notebooks.

Then they still get asked, "Miss, is this on the exam?"

The teaching assistant

Big schools sometimes have teaching assistants.

The assistant prepares worksheets.

Photocopies handouts.

Organises the marks.

The teacher teaches.

Most teachers I know don't have an assistant.

They are the teacher, the assistant, the photocopier, and the counsellor.

AI can't be the teacher.

But it can be a very good assistant.

Meet Sunita Miss

Sunita teaches science to Class 8.

Her weekends used to look like this:

  • Make next week's lesson plan
  • Write a quiz
  • Write a note to parents about the science fair
  • Make a worksheet for weaker students

Saturday gone.

Half of Sunday gone.

What she hands over

Bad:
Make a science quiz.

Good:
Create a 10-question quiz for Class 8 on the
human digestive system. 6 multiple choice, 4 short
answer. Mix easy and medium difficulty.
Include an answer key on a separate page.
Use simple English.

She reads it.

Fixes two questions.

Done in 15 minutes instead of an hour.

Same for:

  • Lesson outlines
  • Parent emails
  • Simplified versions for students who are struggling
  • Extra practice for students who are ahead

Always check the facts

AI occasionally gets a fact wrong.

In a classroom, a wrong fact spreads to 40 students.

So Sunita checks every answer key against the textbook.

She's still the expert.

The AI is the assistant who sometimes needs correcting.

Like every assistant.

The time goes back to students

The best part isn't the saved hours.

It's where the hours go.

More time explaining to the student who's stuck.

More time for the science fair.

More time to actually rest on Sunday.

Final thoughts

Teachers will always have homework.

But not all of it needs to be done by hand.

Let AI prepare the worksheets.

Keep the teaching human.

And maybe, finally, get Sunday back.
